THE REGION OF CORBIERES IN AUDE AND FENOUILLEDES, PYRENEES ORIENTAL, OCCITANIE, FRANCE

In a few words...

We will travel in the province of Languedoc-Roussillon area. Our approach will be from the foothills of the Pyrenees on the Spanish border. Today it is part of the Occitanie region. In this south west corner of the French Mediterranean we will discover the heritage and traditions of the land of the two confronting cultures : Catalan and Occitan. It is the region where the French and Spanish border was formed for centuries and its history has also been influenced by the Romans, Arabs and Cathars. On our trip we will discover several medieval Cathars Castles, often perched high on the mountain tops and learn about their fascinating past. We will enjoy the glorious landscape of the Pyrenees Oriental and wander through the wild hills of the remote region of Corbieres in Aude. There we can walk along some scenic paths to discover hidden gems of natural curiosity like an impressive canyon Gorges de Galamus or legendary mountain Pic de Bugarach. We will soak up the atmosphere of picturesque towns, villages and taste some artisanal products. This wonderful region at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains is also known for wine making.

Program

  • DAY 1

    Short walks and visits of the castle of Queribus, the castle of Peyrepertuse and the waterfall Cascade Verdouble (7km).

  • DAY 2

    Walk through the canyon George de St Jaume and the forest of Aygues Bonnes to the castle of Saint Pierre (9km).

  • DAY 3

    Circular walk around the castle of Termes and visit of the castle of Villerouge in the remote part of Corbières (9km).

  • DAY 4

    Circular walk around the mountain of Bugarach. Visits to the castles of Rennes le Château and Arques (10km).

  • DAY 5

    Walk form Peyrepertuse to the canyon Georges de Galamus (10km).

  • DAY 6

    Visit to the castle of Aguilar and walk to the medieval watchtower of Tautavel (8km).

  • DAY 7

    Walk to the Serre de Verges and the Roman aqueduct in Ansignan (6km).

From Girona or La Bisbal de l’Emporda in Spain or Perpignan in France.

Accomodation

Gites les Casots is located in a quiet and peaceful area near by the village of Rouffiac des Corbieres. It contains 4 wooden chalets with garden. Each one has two rooms, terrace, salon, small kitchen, shower and toilet. On the site there is also a common room with a big kitchen, terrace and barbecue, swimming pool, ping-pong etc.

We shall provide you with fresh, local, organic products as much as possible.

Price

920 € per person in individual room.
Price includes my guiding and driving, six nights in individual room, all the meals (6 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 6 dinners – 1 lunch and 1 dinner in restaurant), tickets entrance and two wine tastings.
Price does not include your personal insurance and beverages.
